Iguanas As Pets: What You Need To Know To Care Of One

Iguanas are quickly becoming a favorite pet for people to care for. It is true that iguanas are much different than the normal pet of a dog and cat. However, this is a great pet choice for you because iguanas as pets can be very rewarding. Iguanas will be loyal to its owner and obedient as long as you know what steps to take in caring for them.

Iguanas need a certain habitat in order to thrive as great pets. Further, you will need to know what to feed an iguana as well as understanding the growth process an iguana goes through. The following will teach you how to become a great iguana pet owner and you will see how rewarding owning an iguana really is.

First off you have to choose an iguana that is right for you. You can find iguanas at your local pet store and this is probably your safest bet to obtain an iguana. However, if you were to buy an iguana from someone other than a pet store, get as much information as possible regarding how that person took care of the iguana. If you are not sure what the proper care is, do not worry as I will explain it all in the next few paragraphs.

It is very important to know that most iguanas come from tropical environments and you will need to mimic such a habitat. So if you can not provide the following environment I would recommended that you do not get an iguana.

You will need to provide a living cage for the iguana that contains adequate amounts of UVA light. The temperature should range from around 80 to 95 degrees. Also, try to keep a higher humidity with plenty of ventilation. Further, you will need to provide hiding places in this cage as well as climbing accessories. In addition, you must clean up after your iguana, just like every other pet, to insure that your iguana stays healthy. Providing all this essentials will help your iguana flourish.

So if you can provide a cage then the next step is if you can provide the necessary nutrients for your pet iguana. Iguanas are vegetarians and you should never feed them meat! Iguanas must be feed a lot of green leaf vegetables and fruits like broccoli, lettuce and berries. Also, you will need to provide your iguana with a clean supply of water. Though iguanas do not drink a lot of water, it is essential they have it readily available. Follow these tips and you will keep your iguana healthy.

Now you should let your iguana out of its cage and you should try to give it some direct sunlight. This will help the iguana get some more UVA rays. Keep an eye on your iguana at first. But know that iguanas are wild animals and will love to climb trees and hide. It will be very hard for you to find your iguana amongst open trees and areas if you lose track of it.

Finally, give your iguana some love. Hold it and show the iguana that you care for it. The iguana will respond to you. As with all other pets, iguanas take commitment and patience before you will see the quality results you are looking for. If you can provide all these functions that I have stated, then give an iguana a try. You will be satisfied and you will become an owner of one the greatest pets available.
